Hello my lovely readers,
Once again, I apologize about being inconsistent with posting. I finally have a job with regular set hours, so maybe that will help.
So the job I have currently been at allows me to be surrounded with the thing I love most: books!! At ThriftBooks, I am a library account receiver, meaning that I get to evaluate the quality of any books that come into the warehouse under a library account. I absolutely love it. 8 hours a day handling and processing books. It's the closest I've ever been to what I want to do, and at least now I'm part of a company that gets books to the people that want them all around the world.
Now, probably the best perk about this job is the free books. Yes, you heard me right: FREE BOOKS. Anything that either gets rejected by the computer system or myself is automatically up for grabs. Ever since I started working there, I've come home with at least 5 books everyday. Needless to say my library has been growing exponentially, which in turn has made me a very happy bibliophile. And to be honest, I enjoy going to work everyday, because I'm helping spread a love of literature around the globe, (not to mention some of the hilarious things I find, but that's a post for another day).
So, on that note, I'd like to share with you the awesome picks I got to take home today!:
Jane Steele - Lyndsay Faye
Imagine Jane Austen reinvented as a serial killer . . . yeah, you better believe I swiped that!!! I'm interested to see how the author mixes such drastically different genres together.
Last Chance for Justice - T.K. Thorne
This is an in depth look at the 1965 church bombing in Alabama that really fired Civil Rights Movement, and the secret investigation 30 years later that finally solved who was behind the crime. Being both a history and true crime fan, I thought this could satisfy my love of both.
A Hitch at the Fairmont - Jim Averbeck
A mystery in which a young boy gets paired up with the director Alfred Hitchcock in order to solve the ransom of his aunt after he's forced to move in with her upon the death of his mother. I thought this was such an original and intriguing premise, plus I'm a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock, so I couldn't pass this one up!!
The Detour - S.A. Bodeen
A teenage hotshot author agrees to attend a writer's conference, only to wreck her car on the way and wake up some time later tied to a bed in a shack. A mother and daughter hold her hostage, but why? And will she able to get out of there alive? Combine a suspense thriller with some literary twists, and you'll see me all excited to read this one!!
And We Stay - Jenny Hubbard
A young girl's boyfriend threatens her with a gun only to kill himself with it. Soon after she is sent to boarding school and struggles with her guilt and tries to come terms with what happened, with the help of some new friends and the poet Emily Dickinson. While this seems like it will deal with some heavy subject matter, I'm interested to see how the author ties the classic poet into the plot, especially since I'm a Dickinson fan.
Blood Will Out - Walter Kirn
This true story is one which the author experienced first hand. How would you feel if you found out that someone you'd known for 15 years was a serial killer? This is exactly what happened to Walter Kirn. Through the book he recounts his relationship with the man he later realized he never knew at all, the investigation into his crimes, and his struggle to process what he thought he knew versus who the killer truly was. A true crime serial killer investigation? Sign me up!!
Anywho, hopefully one of these finds of mine will spark your interest. As always, happy reading!!
